dani alves is incredible going forward. what a shot and the ball in for messi’s third was sublime. barca still the team to beat, despite madrid’s strength.
What a Mickey Mouse league. I mean, I admire Barcelona’s incredible talent and am generally glad to see them do well in the Champion’s League, but there’s something sickening about watching them celebrating goals as they beat up on some minnow with a tenth of their budget each weekend.
Man City winning their first 4 games by a total score of 15-3 or Man United winning their first 4 games by 18-3 against those uber strong power teams such as Bolton is completely different.
Amen
La Liga is garbage
I’m so sick of Barca demolishing minnow after minnow. It’s so boring. How can one find glee in beating up on crap teams. What a joke. They’re bullies. They need to be humbled some how. And all these sheep running around the streets with Barça jerseys on. Don’t they ever want to root for an underdog? Where’s the suspense or the joy of achieving a well-earned victory when you support a oligarch team that never loses? I just don’t get it.
I’m going to buy a Malaga jersey.

As you imagine, I’m not particularly delighted by the development of the EPL over the last ten-fifteen years, but at least there are four or five legitimate big teams (maybe only three this year, but it could be too soon to tell). And I do think even then the disparity is not as great — Bolton lost 2-3 to Man City.
Yawn…Give me some MLS Playoffs
Mostly because their style of play is sublime. Watching Barca play against a good team is beautiful. The fact that they play in a league that isn’t up to their incredible standard, shouldn’t take anything away from them.
These kind of matches are why Barca can never be considered alone as the top team. If they had a real season to go through, their Champions League appearances would be changed drastically. They are still a great team, but because they don’t have to grind all year long, it amplifies their abilities.
Yeah who wants to see Messi play give me the excitement of a Crew vs Rapids game.
What super club with a real shot at the Champions league grinds it out all year long harder then Barca? Man U won the EPL comfortably last year. Barca and Madrid can’t slip at all. Think what you will about their competition its still hard to win that many games. There competition isn’t nearly as bas as Ives readers make it out to be last year Valencia made it out og the Champions league group stage and Villareal made it deap into the Europa League.
Agreed. They are sublime. Almost mesmerizing. But so was the 1992 Dream Team. And, just like with that team, the lack of any chance of losing removes a major piece out of what makes sports exciting. No competition removes the thrill. Why not just watch the Harlem Globtrotters then?
and Levante beat Real Madrid. Barcelona beat Sporting Gijon and Granada (who were just promoted) 1-0.
Your point?
Obviously none of the commenters watched this game, otherwise they would know Barça didn’t even play the “stars” for this one.
No Xavi, Iniesta, Cesc, Alexis, Puyol, Pedro or Afellay. Pique came in as a sub.
Cuenca is 20. And Deulofeu is 17.
It was all Messi. You can’t fault them for having the best player in the world.
I agree that there should be something done so they don’t have to play 18 terrible teams a year in their league, but in the champions league against good opponents there are plenty of chances for them to lose.
And even Messi, until this game, was in a relative slum.
