SBI MLS Team of the Week: Toronto FC

Toronto FC finally put it all together against the Columbus Crew.

TFC put an end to its Trillium Cup nightmare by posting a 4-2 victory over the Crew for its first win in the rivalry series in 13 matches (1-5-7) and a performance worthy of SBI's MLS Team of the Week honors.

Nick Soolsman, Ryan Johnson, Julian de Guzman and Danny Koevermans each scored as part of a balanaced attack that helped deal the Crew just their second home loss of the season and forced the club into a tie with Sporting Kansas City atop the Eastern Conference standings. Toronto, meanwhile, won on the road for the first time all year, captured the trophy for the first time since its inception into MLS and looks to continue playing the role of spoiler down the stretch.

TFC beat out the likes of Real Salt Lake, SKC and D.C. United to take home SBI's weekly honors.

What did you think of TFC's win? Which team had the best week in your mind?

Saturday was first time TFC has scored 4 goals in an away league game (did score 6 vs Montreal at Stade Saputo in Canadian championship final June 18, 2009).

yep they are, just have players that can play it finally. Took some time to gel and they should be competing for top 4 next year. nice to see they beat Ives prediction of 4 wins this year ;). Beating RSL and Columbus none the less. UP THE REDS

  7. Ossington Mental Youth says:

by top 4 i mean top 4 conference. Top 6 in league

Am I the only MLS fan that was shocked to learn that there is a trophy between Toronto and Columbus? At what point can we stop trying to create rivalries out of thin air just to be more like europe or even college football.

Now don’t get me wrong, there are a few real rivalries in this league. But honestly, why is there a trophy between these two clubs?

  9. deepm says:

Any one know if the ‘Atlantic Cup’ has a trophy that goes along with it?

  10. MrTuktoyaktuk says:

Yes, both sets of supporters feel it is a ridiculous, forced league concoction. But ironically after Columbus became a bogey team for TFC (no wins in 13 matches) it took on a bit more meaning. TFC supporters are looking forward to a true league rivalry with Montreal starting next year.

  11. Ossington Mental Youth says:

the cup was a joke but there are/was some feelings/animosity between columbus and TFC supporters etc.

That being said its nothing in comparison to the rivalry between Toronto and Limpact
