  1. Carl says:

Dear Ives/SBI writers: when listing games, I like the use of “at” instead of “vs.” Of course the reader knows the two teams listed are playing each other, so “vs.” adds nothing. But telling me who’s at home and who’s away, that’s actually useful.

    Just an unsolicited tip.

(SBI- Home teams are always listed first.)

  2. Topher says:

The home teams are listed before the away sides.

  3. 20 says:

when vs. is used it means the team listed first is the home team

  4. Carl says:

Ok, thanks for the tip. Coulda sworn I’ve seen home sides listed second, but probably other sites being lazy, and looks like SBI has got it right.

Interesting to see Alajulense and Morelia will be played on artificial turf. So the Costa Rican national team plays on turf at Saprissa or on turf Alajulense. Definitely makes for a certain home field advantage, but I wonder how the players feel about it.

  5. Mauli says:

    Goal RE!

  6. Tums says:

The Costa Rican National team have their own stadium which has a grass pitch.

  7. John F says:

When I first came to the US, the fact that away teams are always listed first struck me as very curious. In the UK, and also in all other countries I’ve ever visited, it’s the other way around. It took some getting used to. Almost 30 years later, I still think it’s an interesting demonstration of good manners to list visitors first. Although that probably has nothing to do with it.

  8. ... says:

I don’t get Galavision; I’m watching on concacaf.com and for some bizarre reason they are showing neither the score nor the time. Anyone care to fill me in?

  9. Brit in Houston says:

I think it probably comes from baseball where the visitors hit first, and are thusly on top of the box score.

  10. Sonicdeathmonkey says:

RE just tied it 2-2. Try watching it on justin tv. It’s the Galavision feed.

  11. Sonicdeathmonkey says:

And just like that, Santos goes back on top, 3-2, with a golazo.

  12. ... says:

Thanks, switched to that just in time to see Santos score (and was able to see what the score was!)

  13. Raul says:

those concacaf streams free? i dont wanna register then tell me i have to pay at the very last step

  14. spencer says:

    yes they are free

  15. chris says:

I’ve been watching USMNT vids on Youtube for the past hour smoking a joint, getting ready for some CCL

  16. Mark says:

Here we go again with Sigi taking CCL too lightly once again….Things never change with this guy

  17. Dale says:

Santos beat Real Espana’s starting line-up with nothing but subs…I hope Santos plays their full squad next time, I want to see some good quality futbol

  18. PurpleGold says:

    dude, that stuff is ILLEGAL.

  19. abc says:

Baseball is definitely where it comes from, for just that reason.
And it works fine even for soccer in the internet age when you can write it as Communicaciones @ Sounders. Save a valuable keystroke or two!

  20. chris says:

    mother f*cking diving midget a$$ b!tches

  21. abc says:

    Youtube?

  22. jonk says:

How did the goal go down? I saw the lineup and immediately thought, “wow, i thought seattle was taking this seriously?”

  23. Leo says:

LA up 1 – nil. Nice pass from de la Garza to Cristman to the back of the net.

  24. TommyOC says:

Last time USMNT played in CR, they played on a green carpet – “green carpet” being a very generous term to describe the quality of that pitch.

You saying they’ve upgraded their field since then?

  25. BB says:

    is Keane playing?

  26. TommyOC says:

    +420

  27. KC says:

Agudelo, Jones, Davies, Bedoya and company do not appreciate that comment

  28. chris says:

you got a problem with that?

  29. chris says:

    they shouldnt

  30. Topher says:

Cristman is a waste of space. yeah, he had the goal (not a hard one), but other than that he’s been bad. he had all the time in the world at one point and made a horrible attempt on the ball, basically whiffed the whole thing. bleh.

  31. This Guy says:

Still waiting on the visa clearance.

  32. CA says:

Seattle’s forwards-Montero and Fucito-have done almost nothing so far. Really would have been nice if our FO would have picked someone up in the transfer window!!!(yes I know any new addition likely would not be playing tonight, but the point still stands)

  33. PJ says:

the same problems will bite them in CCL, lack of finishing and lack of central defending depth. It’s quite a shame, considering the quality they have in the midfield

  34. Kris says:

Where are the fans? I have never seen Century Link so empty!

  35. jj says:

CR has a gorgeous new 35k national stadium with grass

  36. Brent McD says:

no way was that a red on Neagle. yellow would have been sufficient.

  37. Brent McD says:

    nice fightback from Sounders. Fucito!

  38. ericJ says:

3-1 sounders… mike fucito! and down a man!

  39. Ralph says:

Ouch, a De Jong kick to the chest. Straight red card!

  40. ericJ says:

    who…whaT?

  41. Bugman says:

3-1 in the 70th, SSFC looking pretty good with the unserious lineup. The ref may have had a pre-game joint as well. 9 cards already.

  42. Sonicdeathmonkey says:

He must be refering to the LA game. The legend that is Ivan Gurrerro was red carded.

  43. Brent McD says:

how did that not go in??? hmmmm…. on the replay, i think the ball was across the line. and a red card for comunicaciones for dissent? goal line technology anyone?

  44. Ralph says:

De La Garza was cleated in the chest and the Motagua player was straight red carded.

  45. Aero says:

I don’t think the ball went all the way across, at least no replay was conclusive, despite the inane ramblings of the commenters on FSC. A proper goal line camera would have been conclusive, but alas, there appears to be no such camera…

  46. ericJ says:

Ouch. Atleast LA won :) And SEA won.. nice :)

  47. Brent McD says:

Disagree on the no goal call.
Definitely agree on the inane ramblings. Sullivan is awful.

  48. Torporindy says:

It was clearly across the goal line. I think the red was for an elbow to the head instead of dissent.

  49. jya says:

Oddly enough the Chinese built them a new National stadium that has natural grass as jj said.

  50. deflater mouse says:

Was at the game and thought it went in, but hey… Guess sometimes the bounces go our way…

Red card was for abusive language…

  51. sammysounder says:

    so is jaywalking.

  52. Supsam says:

It did cross the goal line. meh. Sounders should have had a pk on the obvious handball in the first half so i say that it sort of evens out.

  53. torporindy says:

It may have been for abusive language, the idiot announcers said it was for an elbow to the head, but I didn’t see it on the replay.

  54. Tim says:

What? Sullivan was right. Bring in the technology though.
