Just three months after Monterrey was crowned 2010-2011 CONCACAF Champions League champion at Rio Tinto Stadium, the quest for the 2011-2012 crown begins in Panama.
The Seattle Sounders take on San Francisco in the opening leg of their preliminary round tie in Panama City (8 p.m., Fox Soccer Channel). The Sounders will look for a positive result to take into next week's return leg in Seattle, as both teams vie for a chance to compete in Group D along with Monterrey, Comunicaciones and either Herediano or Alpha United.
If you will be watching tonight's match, please feel free to share any thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below. Enjoy the game.

Good, strong lineup is nice to see.
Any links to watch game online?
I realize this is a 45-minute drive for SFFC fans, but that place is DESERTED.
$tream hunte r . net
use your head to put the link together. They got bots looking for links
my bad. .tv not net
Wow. Can hear the “C’moooon Seaaaatle/Fight! And Win!” call-and-response at the game. Traveling to Panama for a CCL play-in match? That’s support. And a little nuts.
Goal SF on the PK against the run of play. Tough call. Looked like it was probably correct though.
glad to see seattle using there good players…. but right now at the 24 minute its hard to really give the edge to either team …. ill say though that i think Seattles class should show in the end…. SF has no crowd support and omg they just called a penalty … it was justified …. and he nails it… tough way to start the CCL here in the USA…. pretty par for course in american soccer lol
Long-time villain Roberto Brown puts away a penalty for San Francisco.
I was about to facetiously write that I was surprised the Panama team hadn’t already started time wasting…and then, wait, San Francisco player down on the ground away from the play.
Toronto should be able to kill this team. Come on Seattle.
Took SSFC 2.5 years to get the scoring swag they displayed the last two months. Did Manchester United just kill it? This final-18 futility looks painfully familiar.
man seattle seems a little off tonight… i hope someone steps up and puts a good finishing touch on the ball… they are obviously much more talented, but they seem a little tame
what do you mean? last 2 months?
Uhhh, this game in Panama not Seattle. There’s actually a decent amount of away support for the Sounders
Toronto couldn’t kill a moth right now
I don’t know if it’s impressive or pathetic that I can hear seattle fans on the TV, or both.
Ever since they exploded for 4 against RBNY (June 23) they’ve averaged a little over 2.5 goals per game in all competitions…so I guess E_C_Jason should have said past month rather than two months.
Just that for a team that for much of its first two seasons went long stretches of seasons really struggling to finish a single goal, they’ve done a much better job finding the back of the net the last two months or so. Three goals against Toronto, Portland, and LA (USOC), and four against the Rapids and Red Bulls, off the top of my head.
Hi,
SSFC=Seattle Sounders Football Club
SFFC=San Francisco Football Club
The game is being played at Panama’s national stadium, which is a 45-minute drive from where SFFC usually plays.
As the NFL players say the lockout is back on, the 49ers have to decided to play world football in Panama. They dont have many fans just yet…
TFC is much improved right now
interesting
Yeah I gotta say that the Panamanian team has looked the more dangerous side. The Seattle midfield has looked awful.
Another Panamanian upset of the US???
Is it really an upset? MLS teams haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory in international tournaments.
Same old story for Seattle, lack of finishing and lack of defensive depth without Hurtado. Does Sigi really think this is a complete team???
Sounders lost to a poor team. Even with major rest they lacked energy. Fox commentator is correct, Montero must play higher. Fucito and El Flaco miss open goals. Way too much back passing on attack.
In the last 20 minutes of play, the only Seattle player with decent play was Pat Noonan. Very disjointed attack.
Wow, once again Seattle showing why the Open Cup shouldnt determine a CCL spot. Whole team looked terrible. No urgency, Noonan was the only one that looked like he wanted to win. MLS should be destroying teams like this.
noonan blows, couldnt do anything in the end. they need a real striker to pair with Freddy
+1
Is the game over? what was the final score?
Ik that’s the sad part. He looked like the best striker tonight
1-0 for the home team.
Seattle has much more quality than SF…poor result
Expect Sigi to flame out in the CCL and win the US Open Cup once again….I dont understand this man
WTH Cruz azul beat this guys 6-1. Man I think mexican teams don’t take any team in the area seriously.
Based on todays performance, Monterrey will once again beat Seattle in both games. They are even stronger than last year with their new signing Cesar Delgado of Olympic Lyon..
We blew that tactically. All our offense was coming down the wing and looking for the cross. This has never been our primary weapon. Why switch?
All that said, 1-0 coming back to Royal Brougham . . . we’ll be fine.
On the road, a 1-0 loss isn’t a bad result.
Not a great one, but not an insurmountable result.
Now, if they play that way in Seattle….
This is a bad result all SF needs is a tie or a 2-1 loss!
If they score 1t in Seattle they will put a world of pressure on the Sounders, because of the away goal would be killer. They need to take it to them next week and capitalize on goal opportunities EARLY ON!
try and get your game together after traveling for 20 hours and playing in a humid peat bog
Seattle is still reeling from 7-0 defeat….thanks Sigi!!!
I can accept a bad result, but why a lack of energy? On the broadcast I listened to, you could hear a Sounder assistant yell to a winger, ‘get the f***ing ball’ which was only a few feet away, yet he stubbornly refused to move forward.
The attack down the wings was futile because neither Sounder striker played high or came into the box.
Marco, I heard that too but to me it sounded an awful lot like Keller screaming it. I’m so sure it was Keller screaming it I would bet a good chunk of $$$.
