Chelsea may not be getting one of South America's top young talents, but they might land one of Europe's.

Chelsea has confirmed it is in talks with RSC Anderlecht stiker Romelu Lukaku. The 18-year-old Belgian international has been held in high regard by Chelsea for some time, and the club is now in negotiations with him.

Having just lost out in the chase to sign Brazilian sensation Neymar, Chelsea could still acquire one of the world's up-and-coming talents if it signs Lukaku, who scored 15 goals in league play for Anderlecht last season.

Here are more stories from Saturday:

Modric wants out of Tottenham

Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric has admitted he is ready to leave the club this summer, although he says he won't submit a formal transfer request. Modric is reportedly tempted by the possibility of joining Chelsea, which has already had a $36 million offer rejected. Manchester City and Manchester United are also reportedly keeping an eye out on Modric.

Gervinho and Arsenal making progress

Arsenal has confirmed talks with Gervinho are making progress, and that a resolution for the Lille forward should be expected by sometime next week. The 24-year-old Ivory Coast international has been linked with several clubs, but Lille has ruled out selling him to rival Paris Saint-Germain. Gervinho is also said to be keen on a move to the Premier League.

Newcastle set to sign Marveaux

Newcastle United is set to make its third signing of the summer, agreeing to a five-year deal with midfielder Sylvain Marveaux. The capture of Marveaux will come as a surprise to Liverpool, which thought it had the 25-year-old's signature in the bag.

What do you think of Chelsea possibly signing Lukaku? Think Modric should leave Tottenham? Do you see Gervinho fitting in well at Arsenal?

I’m still bummed by Torres departure from Liverpool. I really believed he cared for the club. why did he have to leave in January and to Chelsea? He should have stayed and tried the system under Daglish. and if he still didn’t like it, he should have left.

  2. Kodi says:

    Oh West London!! Go Blues!

  3. Matt S says:

Newcastle is still afraid to spend that Carroll cash I see. 3 players in and no money spent (Cabaye in and Nolan out fees being a wash). I’m not saying that money spent = quality on the field but with the need for a quality striker, some wing, and defensive depth, they need to not be afraid to spend some money on players that can make a huge difference in the team.

Also wit the usual injury issues that Newcastle deals with I’m hesitant to get too excited about Ba and Marveaux who both have some dodgy fitness issues.

  4. Dude says:

I’m an LFC fan and I’m glad he’s gone, he just wasn’t playing that well before he left and he seemed like his play wasn’t going back to where it used to be.

He wanted out and the way I see it I’d rather have a motivated Carroll and Suarez than a struggling aging Torres.

We are a much more dynamic team with out Torres, and the future looks bright for us reds.

  5. Justin says:

Marveaux signing with Newcastle isn’t a surprise to Liverpool as he failed a physical.

  6. NATO says:

Fulham’s 1st game of the season is on the same day I’ll be in London. I wanna see Clint play and score. any idea what the price of the tickets will be?

  7. ChrisTheLSUTiger says:

Should be no more than an arm and a leg, and possibly your first child.

  8. JazzEJ says:

    What’s the deal with Neymar?

  9. canchon says:

+1. I thought he was google eyed over Chelsea. Or is Santos just rejecting everything to drive up his price?

  10. Gacm32 says:

I don’t know if this wasn’t meant to be sarcastic or not, but tickets are usually cheap. I went to 4 games last season for about $90. Sat in the Hammersmith end H4, great seats.

  11. Dude says:

Yea, I was thinking the same thing and went and googled it.

Santos is trying to drive up the price paid for Neymar.

In my opinion I think Neymar is overrated… I mean yea he is gonna be a great worldclass player but the comparisons to Pele and the constant praises he receive seem to me to be undeserved, he’s young and talented but I feel there is a lot of young and talented players out there with just as much potential to be a star as Neymar has.

  12. giaco says:

Modders does not want out at Spurs. That has already been quashed. That’s just the chavvy cnuts ‘tapping up’ a player. Same old Chelsea, always cheating.
