The Atlantic Cup battle begins tonight as I-95 rivals D.C. United and the New York Red Bulls square off in a battle of Eastern Conference foes.
Both teams are coming off convincing 3-0 victories, with the Red Bulls looking to carry over the momentum from a 3-0 win against San Jose. D.C. United throttled Toronto FC as Charlie Davies impressed in his first start for D.C.
SBI will be providing live commentary on tonight's match so please feel free to follow along here. As always, you are welcome to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
Enjoy the action (Commentary is after the jump):

wow…who would have ever thought Fred would beat out Quaranta for the right wing spot…
does anyone have any links?
Who you kidding? Quaranta sucks!!!! Fred sucks, in fact your whole teams sucks balls!!ROFL …..METROS BABY >>>>>>>LETSSSS GOOOOO!!!!
with that avatar, I will take your word on what sucks – it would seem you know a lot about it.
classy
The most shocking part is that either of them beat out Najar.
You Sir, are a winner. Thanks for what you do.
3-1 DC UNITED!
NY 3 – 1 DC.
i fixed it.
Najar?
What’s going on down in DC?
espn2 or espn3.com work?
oh, right. not allowed to point out matches available on television.
Mad props to Richards to break that attack
Solli and Henry made that look so easy. This DC backline is going to be under fire all night.
Harkes, the Clasico is between Madrid and Barcelona. It has nothing to do with Arsenal.
Try paying attention to soccer outside of the EPL you annoying bum.
Harkes is a jerk the way he questions players’ commitment to their teams. Deuce and Henry ought to get together and jump him.
Backe continues with destroying American soccer. Only 1 american in the field for that team. I know of European clubs that field more Americans. I know of Mexican club that field more Americans. Even Toronto, Vancouver and Chivas USA field more americans. Pathetic. Go back to Europe you old guy!!
Did Harkes seriously just say that someone should drop a hard tackle on Henry just for the sake of putting a hard tackle on him?
Please get this moron along with JP away from US Soccer.
Harkes is generally a moron but I think he is right on this one. Henry hasn’t been fouled all year, that is crazy. Got to let him know you are there and you will be in his face.
Davies half yard onside and gets called off…probably would have been a goal.
Burch is awful.
Richards again starts it off
There goes Harkes again with the stupidity.
Harkes, Henry scored in the last game as well.
I was getting on here to make a post about how terrible John Harkes is. Thanks for covering it, guys.
is the DC United back line so young they don’t know that they should mark Henry? are they aware of who he is?!
It’s good to watch Henry on form again… 2 goals are great… 2 goals against united….priceless
you mean that overrated kid ? if he was so good i’m sure Ben Olsen would start him.
I’d rather this method with two potential American studs(Ream and Agudelo) learning from seasoned pros who know the game, than a bunch of Average American joes playing kick about .
That has to be a red card.
He through a boxing bunch at the side of the guy’s head. How does that go unnoticed?!?
Wow Luke Rodgers is a prick
How in the hell does Rodgers start over Agudelo?
The only thing he has done of note is throw a fist at someone’s head from behind.
Davies looks pissed to come off.
Olsen is really messing up this game. No Najar… now no Davies.
Richards off?
How does Luke Rogers manage to stay on the pitch?!
two goals and an assist in the last game and over 200 professional games under his belt.
Gifted two goals.
And have you been watching? He’s useless unless you’re trying to start a fight.
at this rate, Red Bulls will be better pff trading Agudelo and improving the defenfe.
off*, defense*
doesnt matter how they go in just that they do. dont put so much trust in juan agudelo or else we will get another jozy.
Rodgers is making runs that give Henry room to operate.
Classic Tim Ream.
United is inept offensively.
Makes you wonder… Charlie Davies or Najar would probably have put away some of these.
I think Backe is doing what needs to be done with Aguedelo. He’s easing him in without putting too much on his shoulders. Let the kid learn from veterans right now. He’s got plenty of time
GOLAZOOOOO HOLY CRAP
oh wow.
Wow!!!!
Holy cow!
wow what a goal. amazing.
That goal was just UNFAIR…he’s cheating!
Agudelo. So nasty right there. Wow.
Bang! Agudelo!
NICE!!!!
Boy you look smart now! (And I happen to agree with you completely.)
AGUDELO….WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT???? TAKING TIPS FROM HENRY???? WOW…WHAT A GOAL!!!!!
And is it just me or was DeRosario just invisible?
MOTM: Solli
I’ve been saying this since day one, this kid is for real.
Obviously Henry gave Juan some of his old highlight tapes : )
yeah, i thought olsen had some questionable tactics tonight. should have sacrificed a defender for boskovic instead of dax. charlie should have stayed on. and while i think najar would have been nice to see, i didnt mind seeing santino.
Special goal frpm a special kid. Touch of genius from the youngster.
you and everyone else
Same reason Ballouchy has been invisible. Red Bulls attacks through the wing. Very little through the middle.
+1. Solli was a terror on that side the whole game. RB played a good game with better than average success at scoring. Juan’s goal was top quality; looks like sitting did him some good.
You mean the rookie of the year last season who had six goals at 17? Yeah, pshhh, way overrated.
Idiot.
Congrats on A win, show us your trophy cabinet.
Reams got sommen to say about that dude, so does Mwanga .
What shweazy said is completely right. Your shtick makes 0 (ZERO) sense. It’s so wrong on so many levels:
Ream and Agudelo are learning from the best.
American players on other teams are learning how to play against better competition.
The level of play in the league is rising thanks to Backe, making the league better to watch, and possibly catching the attention of more potential future American soccer players.
The rising quality of the league makes it more likely that European teams will be looking to MLS in transfer season, giving Americans increased access to Europe.
These effects might be marginal, but the logic is undeniable.
So basically, your argument is completely wrong. You couldn’t possibly have less insight. Try to think things through next time before you post.
Apparently you haven’t been watching. Admittedly, he took a cheap shot. There’s no way to defend that. But he played very well. He was active and dangerous, and he combined well up front.
And if you’re a fan of MLS, you know that no goal is a gift. This is not a league where strikers routinely put away their chances.
He’s so gracious and classy to the supporters as well. Along with a number of other NY players like Ream, Lindpere, Tainio, Bouna, Henry. Hey, I guess all of ‘em
Agreed
Pathetic? I don’t care that they’re foreigners. It’s about results Juan. And about playing attractively. I’m an RB supporter and I’m ecstatic. Frankly if we had better Americans to choose from, they would be playing. Destroying American soccer? What a stupid comment from a clueless fool. And I hope that Clever Hans stays right where he is and continues what he’s trying to build.
You must be some sort of genius, everyone else thought he was going to be worthless.
Haha there’s a lot of hostility on this board. I didn’t know I could eurk somebody with such a simple statement. You must be an unpleasant person to be around.
Well then by logic there genius all teams should only field 1 or 2 Americans and have the easy way out and just bring foreigners(unlike RSL or FCD who are building from the bottom up). The USMNT depends on MLS. Last time I remember MLS is an American league and the best way to promote and enhance soccer here is to give playing time. RB is just like Arsenal. An english team with pure foreigners nicknamed the United Nations. Pathetic!
This is just a shot in the dark here…but would you happen to work for the USSF? Say… in the capacity of president?
Oh, please. How many homegrown players have NY signed? More than most of the league, I believe. Including Juan Agudelo, who last time I checked is helping the USMNT… but that can’t be right, since NY is destroying American soccer and harming the national team.
Like congrats on winning rookie of the year?
