Copa del Rey trophy dropped, run over by Real Madrid bus during celebration

You'd think after lifting the World Cup and European Championship trophies that Sergio Ramos would have celebration etiquette mastered. The Real Madrid defender dropped the Copa del Rey from the top of the club's bus during the celebration through the streets of Madrid after Wednesday's 1-0 victory over rival Barcelona. The bus promptly runs over the trophy:

That’s a bad luck sign right there….for the Champions league. Enjoy the only cup you will have in the season Madrid.

I wish a couple players would have went with it. I hate seeing teams built by nothing but bidding money do well.

I heard the trophy was unharmed. Which, to me, seems unlikely.

  11. B1879 says:

Pretty big mistake, but I like the one where he gave the ball away to Dempsey in ’09 better.

  12. Adam M. says:

Usually it is the Cup that Runneth Over.

I heard it was a stunt double from the Spider Man musical.

  17. BCC says:

    Bravo!

  18. wilyboy says:

Only Real Madrid could pull this off and continue to celebrate through it all. Please don’t let them win the Champion’s League.

  19. STX81 says:

  23. ImaGoalMan says:

It’s just that its been so long for RM without hardware. They didn’t know what to do with it ;)

  24. Jay says:

The special one told them to win the cup they needed to park the bus I think they may have misunderstood him.

  25. Cliff Poncier says:

What do you expect from a man who plays a sport where he’s not allowed to use his hands?

  26. ChrisTheLSUTiger says:

Not a Man City fan either, are we?

  27. ChrisTheLSUTiger says:

From the way the cup went down you’d think it was Christiano who was holding it.

  31. inkedAG says:

    Awesome!

  32. Brad says:

Yeah, espn reported the pieces were picked up from under the bus and it needs to be repaired. The people saying it was ok were the players…

  33. inkedAG says:

This is why football is played with your feet and not with your hands!

  34. joel says:

    pretty funny

  35. Hincha Tim says:

Hey, these one liners are WAY better than “Name the caption” ones have been. You guys are Rockin’ today. I laughed my arse off on all the quips.

  36. Al_OC says:

Damn Europeans, even the cup takes a dive.

  37. Hincha Tim says:

Ramos dropped it in surprise realizing what he had said after Xabi Alonzo dared him to ask, “Christiano may I?” then spell cup.

  38. Spectra says:

Sadly Barcelona pays more per player than Real so don’t get too cocky

  39. CSD says:

Sports highlight of the year. Awesome.

  40. CSD says:

New rule, all football trophies must be held up during celebrations by the players feet only. Only exclusion is the goalie.

  41. Lassiter says:

Meanwhile king Juan Carlos is laughing in his palace as he sips wine from the real Copa del Rey made of pure Incan gold.

  42. vik says:

    well played

  43. jacob says:

    NO!! LOL!

  44. JayMah says:

Ronaldo’s beauty makeup and hair crap rubbed off on the cup that it became slippery

  45. Ah, only in soccer!

  46. Geoff says:

Don’t worry about the cup. It hopped right up after a trainer hit it with the numbing spray.

  47. SilverRey says:

We still need another 20-30 years before we can even think about relegation. We have a Div I and II (kind of) that are still going through their own growing pains. We are still a long way off from having multiple non-MLS cities that would have an 18,000 seat arena that could hop into the MLS on any given season.

See you in two decades, then we’ll talk…

  48. SilverRey says:

    oops sry, wrong post…

  49. BellusLudas says:

This is what happens when Barca don’t win a trophy! :-)

  50. mase says:

Yeah but more than half of Barca’s starting lineup is from their football school, they’re paying their own while Madrid just strips other football clubs for established players. Cant really compare them to one of the “buying” a championship team.

  51. papal93 says:

    LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  52. St. Addi says:

Hilarious! I love how the party just keeps going! I’m guessing the main culprit is the guy next to him, who is wildly flailing his arms about. I can totally imagine Sergio muttering under his breath, “Dude, take it easy, can’t you see I’m holding this giant f-ing cup right at the edge of the bus!”

  53. Vince Clortho says:

Headline! Real Madrid leaves their mark on the Copa Del Rey!

  54. Vince says:

That’s why it’s never good to throw people or trophies under a bus.

  55. Jon L. says:

hahaha. this is definitely going to be the number 1 on the not top 10 tomorrow!

  56. Jack says:

    That is hilarious.

  57. smokeminside says:

well, the stanley cup has had some weird things happen to it, like being thrown onto a frozen river and found the next morning…..but I don’t think it’s actually been run over by a bus, just a zamboni, so you may be right…..

  58. smokeminside says:

I completely agree; some of these comments are as funny as the event itself.
