Ever wonder why the U.S. men's national team has gone so long without a red jersey to go with the various white and blue uniforms to come out throughout the years?
Wonder no more.
The U.S. national team will unveil a red third jersey that will be availabe in April. No details yet on the design of the jersey, but USA fans have been clamoring for a red jersey for some time. It's a natural addition considering red is the color of choice for many U.S. national team fans.

They better make a lot, people have been waiting for this for a long time.
Assuming it’s the same one (which I think likely), the red one leaked last year well before the World Cup. Same design as the other two, with a blue sash.
Not bad, but it’d be better with a white sash.

I wonder if it will be the red shirt with the blue slash that was circulating when they released the kit for the 2010 World Cup? I somehow doubt that, though. I think they will do another overhaul.

Third jerseys for national teams are a total cash-grab. We hardly wear the current away! Even if we designate this as the official away jersey for the Gold Cup or something, it’ll probably only see the field once.
But, having said that…I’ve always wanted a red US jersey so I don’t mind this one as much. Hope they pair it with navy shorts on the field.

This is way overdue. Sam’s Army wears red, so should the Nats. Can’t wait to see it.
Teams that wear white definitely come off as snobbish to me (Real – though that’s my favorite team, Galaxy, Red Bulls, England, Dallas Cowboys, lol). When everybody wears white for road jerseys, it seems arrogant to take white as a home jersey to rarely have to swap it out. It also seems like an absence of having a team color. It’s boring.

YES!! I still rock my DTOM jersey. I have the red training jersey too from a couple of years back that is not too shabby but it will be cool to have a “real” jersey.
It doesn’t make sense to have a red kit to me, given the fact that T & T, Canada, Costa Rica, and Panama all wear red…
Alot of those teams wear white because in American sports it is traditional for the away team to wear white. I agree we should have a third but for the diversity, not because white is snobbish.

We’ve known it was coming for some time…expected to go on sale 4/1 and rumors abound that the Yanks may wear them in one of the March friendlies. Can’t wait!

Then when another Italian player crumples to the ground the USMNT player can stand over him with his “DIVE FLAG” jersey to point it out to the blind refs. (Search scuba dive flag if you don’t get it).
Would be cool to have a new design (don’t love the sash jerseys that much).

Don’t mess with the crest. It has been around for 15+ years now without a change. The only think i would add is a star over the top in 2014

I agree. I think the current US Soccer logo looks very amateur. We could use something a bit more classic looking. Something to show how much the team has grown since the early ’90s.
one of the best jerseys ever. it was the Copa America 2007 jersey. i got mine with Dempsey on it…of course, he wasn’t there. i guess that’s on me for buying it before the roster was announced. but i LOVE that jersey.

Why would they add a star we have not won a world cup. Stars on a jersey represent how many championships you won.
meh. I always loved how the team wears blue/white while our supporters wear red. I don’t know why, but for me a red jersey would just seem… strange. Like someone else said, it seems like a cash grab.

I recall some study claimed that in professional sports, the team wearing red were more likely to win than teams in any other color.

There are far worse logos for federations than ours. What makes logos “classic” or not is their age. Give our current logo about 50 years and it’ll have the “classic” look.

I personally nominate Brian Philips to design a new crest. Dude knows a crazy lot about US Soccer in its glory days in the 1920s and could pull off a beautiful combination of new and old
Actually, in most cases, the home team wears white, with the exception of football (and now hockey). Basketball, baseball, college sports, etc.
The “Don’t Tread on Me” jersey was easily the best jersey the U.S. has ever had! They should re-issue that one! Mine got destroyed in the wash and cannot find a replacement anywhere!

Agreed. What do the stars mean, and why is the middle one bigger? Why is the ball going up at that angle? Why blue stripes when the stripes on our flag are red and white? Why US and not USA? Why the cartoony font? We can do better.

Ok. I bought the blue prom queen model from the last world cup. Didn’t really like it, but it was the team jersey. This one better be an improvement. It kills me to say it, but I really like England’s red jersey. Don’t get too “sporty” on us. We’ve been playing the game a long time and the jersey should look classic and classy.
I like the Red idea but Nike’s designs have always been awful on all of the merchandise…not just the jerseys. USA needs a rebrand after the successful World Cup.
The crest is awful…US needs to be rebranded to USA with a new logo. It is a new era in US soccer…

The reason it’s U.S. and not USA is because the country’s name is the United States. Ever notice it’s POTUS or SCOTUS instead of POTUSA or SCOTUSA? Ever notice that before the State of the Union the Sargeant at Arms yells, “Mr. Speaker, the President of the United States!” without the “America” added on after. The federation is also the United States Soccer Federation, known as U.S. Soccer, not the United States of America Soccer Federation. Plus, it differentiates us from the other sports federations like USA Basketball. I also hate how SportsCenter tries to use the name “Team USA,” but ask yourself if you’ve ever heard of Wayne Rooney playing for “Team England” or Leo Messsi playing for “Team Argentina?” If were known as the U.S. or United States that tendency is less.
Tell that to River Plate. Tell that to Peru. Tell that to Real Madrid and Southapton and the Galaxy, who wore it as their original kit. A sash is one of the traditional template kits in football just like solids, hoops, stripes, quarters, chevrons, and halves. If all you see is a beauty pagent sash, a) you watch too many beauty pagents, and b) you don’t know your history.
Personally, I’d like to see the 2006 World Cup white top style. Red shirt with half blue and half white vertical stripe going down the badge side of the shirt, and blue shorts (don’t want too much red and red tops with white shorts screams England). I always thought that 2006 white top was a clean look.

Maybe USA Soccer should start selling GK jerseys as well.
They used to–particularly the original nike design with the horizontal stripes. This was when the goalkeeper kit was the same template as the team kit.
Ever since nike has switched to using a generic template for the ‘keeper (i.e. the same one all nike-outfitted teams’ keepers use) they have been harder to find, but you can occasionally find one on ebay.
Who else is red in CONCACAF? Canada, Panama, T&T, Costa Rica? USA should have 3 jerseys always, two main ones and an alternate.
It is a third kit. Meaning they won’t wear it often. Besides, they aren’t going to wear red against Costa Rica or T&T.

This is the best decision US Soccer has made in a long time. Those DTOM Send Off jerseys are still the best thing the MNT has ever worn.
