College soccer weekend preview

NCAA tab

By JOHN BOSCHINI

The first automatic ticket to the NCAA tournament could be punched on Saturday when No. 13 Pennsylvania travels to No. 16 Princeton in a matchup of 5-0-0 Ivy League records. Since the Ivy League does not hold a conference tournament, the regular season champion receives the conference automatic bid. Penn and Princeton are the only two teams left in contention.

Big East tournament play resumes tonight when DePaul takes on Connecticut in a makeup of their postponed first-round game. The second round gets underway on Saturday with three quarterfinal matchups. Marquette, fresh off its upset of St. John's, is looking for a trip to the semifinals at Red Bull Arena but face a resurgent Notre Dame squad.

In other weekend action:

The ACC wraps up regular-season play with No. 21 Duke hosts a dangerous Wake Forest side looking to work its way back into NCAA consideration. No. 4 North Carolina welcomes lowly Clemson while No. 15 Virginia looks to get back on track against N.C. State.

Fox Soccer Channel's college game of the week will feature Memphis taking on Alabama Birmingham at 7:00.

Must be pretty sweet getting to play at Red Bull Arena. How many tickets have been sold/expected turnout?

Still would love to see programs in the BIG 12 and SEC. Does it always have to be about money/scholarships?
