Domestic cup games overseas resume on Wednesday, with a few United States men's national team players potentially seeing the pitch.
Eric Lichaj is starting but Brad Guzan has surprisingly given way to Brad Friedel for Aston Villa's Carling Cup match against Burnley. Elsewhere in the UK, Maurice Edu's Rangers will face Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup. Both of those games kick off at 2:45 p.m.
In Spain, Jozy Altidore's Villarreal takes on Club Polideportivo Ejido in the first leg of their Copa del Rey tie (3 p.m.), and in Germany, Michael Bradley's Borussia Monchengladbach meets Bayer Leverkusen in a DFB Pokal second-round match (2:30 p.m.).
If you will be watching any or all of Wednesday's games via Internet feed, please feel free to share any thoughts, opinions and play-by-play in the comments section below. Enjoy the action!

any of these on tv?
wtf? Espn has Friedel starting. Is Guzan injured?
Or far less likely, is this the beginning of Guzan seeing league minutes come Saturday?
Spector doesn’t even make the bench for a Carling Cup game? Is he hurt or does Grant just despise him?
Doubtful that Guzan is now the #1 at villa but that would be nice.
Anyone see if Jozy is starting today?
Hope Jozy gets some action!
Glad that both Bradley and Edu are starting today, as well as Lichaj. Great news. Wish ESPN had them gamecasted though…
Jozy is starting w/ Montero up top.
Anyone know of a stream for the Villareal match? I can’t find one anywhere…
Very doubtful that there is one…
Where is this information found? ESPN has got nothin
marca.com…but they are covering all matches at once. Very little info to be found.
Stream options today are horrible. The BMG game is on, but Aston Villa and Villareal cup games are nowhere to be found. Are they being televised at all?
dont think one exists.
Jozy’s finally going to put one in today, i can feel it.
is there a solid website that has all scores/line-ups, etc? soccernet doesn’t cut it sometimes.
flashscore.com, but they dont have line ups normally
Maybe Yahoo Eurosport…
link to uk.eurosport.yahoo.com usually does.
Lately they’ve been struggling though. No lineups for the copa del rey matches, just the scores/min.
Min-by-min updates on arsenal-newcastle today. Occasional updates on the two other carling cup contests. Lee-high just fired over the bar from 30 yards.
He has to get out of there in January.
It looks like Jozy scored with assistance from Montero.
Marca says goal for Jozy!
translated
Poli Ejido – Villarreal
Villarreal GOOOOOOOLLL in Santo Domingo. Altidore goal after a move to Jefferson Montero has put the ball in the U.S. for the 0-1 mark
jozy!
JOZY SCORED!!!!!!! I <3 JOZY!
Altidore goal – 44′
Villarreal 1-0 P Ejido
good call, amigo!
Nice work Jozy! Anyone who can give a description see the goal?
Thatta boy, Josmer. What’d I say???
Let’s see him get another one.
SBI needs a like button
YAHHH JOZY!!! WHOO! Let’s get another ONE!
Via BBC:
Steve Sidwell races into the box to get on the end of Eric Lichaj’s cross but it skims off his head and out for a goal-kick – if he’d been a couple of inches taller, that could’ve been the opener at Villa Park.
Have you seen him play recently? He wouldn’t be starting in MLS right now. He is a liability on the field.
Question regarding the offside rule:
I was under the impression that a player could be in an offside position as long as he does not play the ball or interfere with play. So Player A could be in an offside position while Player B scores and the goal would stand as long as Player A never became active during the goal scoring sequence.
Is that correct? And if it is, is that a new interpretation of the rule or something? Because the announcers in the Arsenal-Newcastle game keep howling about a rule change and how Arsenal’s second goal (Walcott, who scored, was onside; Bendtner, who did not touch the ball, was miles offside) would not have stood before the rule change and it’s an outrage and etc. I was hoping someone could clarify things for me.
I think it’s because Bendtner took out a defender as Walcott was bursting free, so he would be either “interfering” with the play or just plain outright fouling another player; both calls would have preceded the goal.
don’t speak Spanish either.
GOOO JOZY!!!
Vik’s report is what I read as well. Bendtner effectively blocked a newcastle player off his run.
Otherwise you would be correct. A player in an offside position when a ball is played should not necessarily be flagged for it.
Ah, I missed that. The stream was skipping, didn’t see Bedtner take out anyone. Thanks.
I’m still a bit confused about why the announcers were going on about a rule change though? It seems like this was a missed call–it should’ve been dissallowed–not a new interpretation of things?
thank goodness for mike bradley’s shaved head, he’s so easy to spot on the screen…
anyone see jozy’s goal?
I got a fiver says they will later say he looked horrible up top and was lucky to score.
That rule change has been in effect for awhile? I didn’t see the play but youall’s comments appear to correct. Marco Etchevery used to throw his arms out like an airplane and run out of the box to emphasize to the ref’s that he was Not involved in the play, when caught in an off-side position.
Yeah, that totally makes up for looking like a thumb.
Sure. Probably the people at the Poli Ejido stadium, unless they were getting cervezas.
Lol. Stu makes it easy too. Just gotta look for the blonde tips
Emile Heskey and Jozy both score on the same day.
a metaphor for his utility on both offense and defense, perhaps?
But really, it IS helpful…
Holy s**t ‘n chips! Everybody head to the apocalypse bunker!
Mo Edu even easier to spot in the SPL
plus Theo Walcott scored a brace
ha!
I think i’ll go pick up some water and mres just in case
Back to back goals in the BMG game. First Leverkusen score in like the 108th and then BMG come back a minute later to level it. I think Bradley started the sequence that led to the BMG goal with a cross into the box.
lol, so true
Gol, Moreno, Poli at the end of the match
WTF do you mean you think? You either see the man with a crystal ball for a head kicking the ball or you don’t…
And the match ends 1-1…way to blow it Villarreal.
I agree he’s much easier to spot, but my stream isn’t exactly crystal clear.
Gladbach going to penalties.
did poli really just even things up with villareal? Do they go to extra time or replay in copa del reY?
So how does this work in Copa del Rey? PKs? Replay?
home-and-home
thats a good thing…get jozy another start
Bradley makes a PK! Gladbach needs 1 more.
Bradley makes his penalty to make it 4-3 for Gladbach after 4 shots each
Gladbach win!
Gladbach wins! Bradley with a PK and maybe an assist.
Bradley elfmeter (PK) seals win for Gladbach in Extra Time in the DFB Pokal against Leverkusen.
Bradley’s dangerous cross was headed by a backpedalling Leverkusen defender to the feet of Idrissou, who collected and shot left footed into the bottom right corner. Don’t know if Bradley gets an assist on that.
i always thought MB excelled at elfmeter
That’s an interesting way to spin it.
Elfmeter is penalty kick in German? That’s excellent.
Ja, das ist richtig! It’s not a spin, rather the complete and accurate description auf deutsch (in German).
No. I understood the elfmeter talk. I’m talking about your description of Bradley sealing the win in extra time. That’s quite the spin. He scored the 4th penalty for ‘Gladbach. Then Leverkusen scored their 4th(out of 5 tries.) Then ‘Gladbach scored number 5 and won.
elfmeter = 11 meters
I was listening (not watching) on-line at work via bundesliga.de, and must have mis-understood what I heard in German.
If Jozy scores a goal, but nobody sees it.. did Jozy really score a goal?? hmmmmmm
I just watched the game on DVR. My wife had to leave because I was yelling at the TV. The announcer was making NO sense regarding the offside rule. Yes, it used to be different. But now it is well-established. The announcer wouldn’t stop pining for the old days and the old rule.
Bendtner’s “offside” position had nothing to do with the goal. The crowd was upset because Bendtner did (inadvertently, it seemed) collide with one of the pursuing defenders.
I’m waiting Aston Villa’s match, this team is my favorite
