Cummings brace leads Rapids to victory

The Colorado Rapids sent a clear message on Wednesday night to anybody expecting them to fold up and be the team to fall out of a playoff place.

Don't hold your breath.

Omar Cummings scored a pair of goals while newly-acquired Mac Kandji delivered two assists to help the Colorado Rapids register a 4-1 victory against the Philadelphia Union at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

The win, coupled with San Jose's loss to Chicago, allowed the Rapids to move up to fourth in the Western Conference and keep an eight-point cushion on a playoff berth.

Here are the highlights of the match:

What did you think of Colorado's performance? See the Rapids being a threat in the playoffs? Think the Kandji-for-Ballouchy trade might help both teams?

  1. Kevin in Denver says:

Who is this Ballouchy you speak of? I’ve never heard of him.

  2. Boulder Rapidman says:

Kandji fits in to the Rapids system better than Ballouchy did. And Ballouchy fills a need that Red Bull had. Both players are paying off dividends immediately. This is looking like a great trade for both teams.

I was a Ballouchy fan, and I still am!

The Rapids look great right now. Especially in that Philly game. They look like, dare I say it: they are having fun out there!

Philly just looked defeated even before they walked in. Maybe they know the Playoffs are still a season or two away for them. I wouldn’t worry about it. Philly is a good soccer town, PPL Park is fantastic, and I think the Union has a good coach and good investment in youth. They also have a gem of a player in Le Toux. I expect they will take this season on the chin and bounce back in coming years.

Jack McInerney scored a nice goal for Philly. I really wanna see this mature into a real goal scorer.

  4. Big Chil says:

Yes, the Rapids are a playoff threat. Looking forward to it.

  5. Denver Andrew in D.C. says:

Denver’s where soccer goes to die, right Mehdi? RIGHT!?

  6. Boulder Rapidman says:

Prediction: Rapids v RSL in the Final.

The most brutal game in MLS History.

  7. Justin O says:

I love all of MLS’ new DPs as much much as anyone, but the most entertaining player in the League? The guy I would most readily pay money to see?? Right not, that’s Omar Cummings.

    LOL

Ives: “Rapids are a terrible, horrible organization that has no place in the MLS. That being said, how do you feel about being in New York?”

(SBI-Thanks for the laugh. I really did just burst out laughing when I read this.)

  9. Ben says:

You’d think the teams would start competing for 7th and 8th place overall instead of and 4th in the West. Who wants to have a bracket that includes LAG, FCD, and RSL?
