If the Seattle Sounders hope to maintain defense of its U.S. Open Cup title, they'll have to best a persistent nemesis the Los Angeles Galaxy (10 p.m.) in the quarterfinal.
The two sides head to the Northwest and Tukwila, Wash. and the Starfire Sports Complex for their third meeting of the season. In the previous two matches, Los Angeles won both by a combined score of 7-1, including last Sunday at the Home Depot Center.
The Galaxy, on a record setting pace in league play, has a good a chance at multiple trophies, and they'll have to get it done in front of a hostile crowd to advance. Landon Donovan is not available, getting time to rest along with striker Edson Buddle after their World Cup trip. The winner advances to face Chivas USA in the semifinals.

LA wins this one by a goal
Is one of seattle’s themes diabetes?
The stream is beyond choppy.
That conductor has to be 400+ lbs.
Boy am I “charged” up for this one.
Lineups:
Seattle
Boss
Scott–Parke–Ianni–Wahl
Nyassi–Sturgis–Seamon–Montano
Levesque–Jaqua
LA
Saunders
De la Garza–Gonzalez–Leonardo–Cazumba
Klein–Kirovski–Jordan–Lewis
Mathis–Gordon
The expected semi-reserve teams on both sides.
Just absurd that so many people affiliated with a sports organization are that overweight.
Yeah, stream is VERY choppy.
Nice and smooth here
Nice and smooth for me. Sound cuts out every so often though.
Bah, my connection isnt that bad, i wonder whhy mine is choppy.
It gets choppy for me every time the counter in the lower left hand corner moves.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, we’re offline.
Anyone else tired of hearing Montano pronounced “Montan-i-o”?
Anyone else just hear the conspiracy theory by the commentator?
What was it?
can’t believe after all the soccer that’s on I still choose to watch even more!
That MLS screwed up Omar’s yellow card accumulation count so that he could play both Seattle games.
This Galaxy “B” Team looks rusty. Do far, not very entertaining.
Since when was neon yellow the color of electricity? And did Seattle save a few bucks by borrowing last year’s away strip from Chelsea? I’m in my darkened den and I’m wearing shades.
Galaxy & Sounders B teams + small plastic pitch + crappy quality stream = not a fun game to watch
Also, is there a way the Galaxy could just play with 10 men and free up Mathis’ salary?
Haha, what?
These goalies just keep booting it back and forth to eachother.
From the position of the 10 yard mark from the corner – about a half-yard outside the 18 – this field is a whopping 67 yards wide. A big disadvantage for the Galaxy who are used to acres of space at the HDC.
Gonzalez should not have been able to play against the Sounders because he had to many yellow cards. MLS made a whoopsy and now Gonzalez cant play against the Revs this weekend. At least according to this guy.
Klein hits the post in the 39th minute – that’s as close as anyone has come so far.
As an RSL fan, i support LA in this game.
0-0 at the half. The commentator has reminded us about the possibility of extra time in this game; please score someone!
I cannot believe that this field is regulation size.
Jaqua scores in the 49′, on a third chance try.
looks like our chances for the treble are dim.
Implying Galaxy would do anything in the CCL
oh no, we’re winning that. I’m thinking at this point, MLS Cup & Champions League. Of course we’ll have the Supporters Shield but I don’t think that counts
Thats how you pronounce it, its MontaƱo.
Jaqua scores again in the 61′. That’s the first time the Gals have allowed two all year.
Damnit..2-0 sounders. Come on Galaxy!!!
Seattle fans are weird looking. Almost as strange as Timbers fans.
He was doing a research for the game on Sunday and questioned why Omar had not been suspended with five cards. If it had been noticed by the league he woul dhave missed the Toronto game a few weeks back. He actually played 3 games before it was noticed. Sounds like Arlo did some good research. Omar is playing tonight, because he won’t against NE
Jovan Kirovski does not look like an athlete.
Sounders looking good. We’ve sorely missed Jaqua.
Montono (enya implied) looks full of energy..something we have sorely lacked.
Ha ha, what do we look like? Now I am self concious
Montano has looked good. But more than anything, it’s just good to see someone put the ball in the back of the net. Jaqua may not be the most gifted and skilled forward in the league, but he’s shown an ability to score goals where the rest of the Sounders offence has been impotent.
aaaannd, he almost gets a third.
The gap between Juninho and the number 88 on the galaxy is as wide as the grand canyon.I won’t bother learning number 88′s name.
2-0 final, Seattle wins.
A bunch of self righteous pricks who walk around with an undeserved sense of accomplishment.
To be fair we DID win the Open cup last season. Also, that statement lacks merrit and will remain erronious until you actually provide proof that EVERY SEATTLE FAN is as you described. When it comes down to it you are calling the kettle black…
Thanks for your opinion though.
nice! you added alot to this thread!
Germany losing, Sounders winning? What is this bizzaro world?
LA losers
+1
ahh yes but it felt good to win against the Galaxy even if it was an Open Cup B team.
As far as Germany goes, it just goes to show you that some of the punditry that goes on is just a farce. Germany were the darlings of the tournament because they scored so much against some world class teams and Spain’s form slipping etc..
Just goes to show that at this level we really can not rely on anyones predictions and just have to wait and see what happens.
and on that note:
Spain 2 – Netherlands 1
well you can rely on an octopus. haha
if its a trophy you count it. so supporters shield counts
heh
