interested to see if Gooch plays in this competition. I gotta say I’ve been looking forward to this section for a long time.
Ives
There’s a piece on soccernet.com about Europe clubs interested in Mac Kandji. How serious is this interest? Since I’m not a NYRB follower, what’s the argument for why teams are interested (I don’t hear big headlines about him… and that doesn’t mean he’s not a capable or talented player… just saying)?
I am just watching Schalke vs Hamburg. Raul vs van Nistelrooy 0-1 after 8 minutes.
That picture is greatness. Would be fun to see a caption contest with it.
My cat walks around with his tongue hanging partly out like that too.
Is Jermaine Jones in? He’s been coming on as a second-half sub this preseason.
just got in and scored with his first touch.
Does anyone know if NY Red Bull game will have some live streaming?
Mlssoccer lists it as being on Direct Kick so it’ll be broadcast to some people…which means someone might be streaming. Anyway, check atdhe.net around game time for a stream.
yeah, he collected the ball centrally just outside the 18 and hit a low bouncing shot that maybe should have been saved, but it went in.
I was going for the girl’s head being in an awkward position and Henry enjoying it.
I didn’t even see that until you mentioned it. That’s quality.
sadly, gooch isn’t even on the 23 player list that travelled to london….we should be worried about his future there….he wasn’t on the list of players available for the preseason match last week against varese, a game milan lost 3-0
Jermaine Jones nets one for Shalke today in Liga total! Cup
Did anyone see the article about Charlie Davies’ return to Sochaux on SI.com? Uggh, sounds terrible. Who knows if he’ll ever be the same?
just read it, thanks for the heads up….i commented last week that we should be worried about CD based on the substitution pattern these last few preseason games….and today sochaux is playing another preseason match and CD isn’t even on the list of players available…I’ve said before and i’ll say it again that we should be concerned about him….he clearly is not completely returned from the horrible injuries…and based on this article, anyone who thinks that he could have contributed in a world cup match last month is clearly not thinking objectively….
Indeed. And I think alot of folks should be eating crow for the crap they gave Bob Bradley about not taking him for SA2010. There were plenty of things to be critical of Bob Bradley, but not selecting Davies wasn’t one of them.
That article dipped into speculative pessimism at the end, and for no real reason it seemed. The fact that Davies was back to running and ball work before the World Cup got everyone thinking he just needed to get his fitness back and he’d be ready to go. But it took Eduardo something like a year before he was back in Arsenal’s lineup. Anyway, there is no reason for fans to think if Charlie isn’t getting games this fall that he’s destined to ride the bench all year.
Don’t try telling Aubie4prez that.
He still feels leaving CD off the World Cup roster was a major blunder sometng about 80% of Charlie is better than 100% of Findley.
But then Aubie is a card carrying member of the I’m-smarter-than-BB-and-know-the-players and-situaton-better-than-him party.
Chances are he’ll blame BB for not picking CD anyway and thus ruining his spirits and causing CD to have a set back in recovery.
But then these guys also blame BB for not having an armed guard on Charlie’s room that night to insure that he would not break curfew.
BB is to blame for every bad thing associated with the USMNT and all of the good things happen by accident.

I would argue that we don’t need to worry about him yet. He’s still working hard and just as it was ridiculous to expect him to play at the WC, it’s ridiculous to think he could immediately slot into the 1st team at Sochaux. If he hasn’t made any sub appearances by October then we can worry. Remember, the talk after his injury was that it could be 12 months of recovery.
It’s silly to think that CD would be back in the lineup that soon. I’m glad now we know the facts about his health. The problem before was that we didn’t have any info or video showing his physical ability, maybe that is why people were so worked out about it. Now we know he is not 100% and that’s understandable. It will take him some time to adjust. I will start to worry next year if this continues, but not right now, it’s too early.
I’m eager to see how Henry does against MLS defenses (and MLS referees).
Lots of the information we did get was too rah-rah and, frankly, not very good journalism.
The interest stems from his remarkable performances against Tottenham and Man. City in the NY Football Challenge. Coaches and Players alike praised him in person on the pitch and in the media. Tottenham was his first game back from injury he broke a bone in his foot and has been out for the past 3 months. It has just been his agent getting calls, nobody has contacted the RBNY brass officially. He wants to stay in NY and bring some titles here and someday play for the USMNT. See what happens.
kljestan coming in 35th min due to injury..jupiler debut
Sacha Kljestan has just gotten onto the field for anderlecht people. Here’s a stream link to atdhe.net
Queue the weekly question…. stream?
Certainly if you’re familiar with the weekly question, you’re familiar with the weekly answers.
what’s sacha’s number?
nevermind he’s 19
I think its #19.
-2 Uughhh… Clearly needed to add a couple of turbo shots to my DD coffee this morning.
anyone know if lichaj is playing in this villa feyenoord game?
I’m currently getting the mls direct kick on directv for free. Much like receiving free porn I’m frightened this will go away. Is there some kind of special promo deal right now?
Free for me too on Time Warner Cable.
beautiful goal by Le Toux. as nervous as he played Wednesday, he is playing with full confidence today
Watching the early MLS games on DirectKick on Direct TV…Atiba Harris is such a misunderstanding…he really is…between a stupid handball gifting Colorado a goal, and missing the ball in front of the empty goal, it is somewhat embarrassing that this guy plays professional football…
Terrible attendance in Colorado…stadium looks empty…between them, FC Dallas, Chivas USA, and New England, those 4 teams has failed to develop a solid fanbase over the years…
Garber: contraction is due among any of these 4 teams? Why force something when it’s just not there?Kinda like expanding NHL to Southern markets where noone has played or cares about hockey…
Philadelphia Union have been a pleasant surprise on and off the field. Stunning strike by LeToux for the lead. It’s quite an entertaining game…67th minute, still 1:0 Union.
Chris Seitz: terrible goaltending for the tying goal(and a strange bounce right before the ball went in) Perovic keeps scoring, he has been a good buy for the Revs; an inteligent player. Union have dominated the game, but…still, 13 minutes left. I am really enjoying this…
Union have been an exciting team to watch, win or lose. I saw them v. the Tampa Rowdies in pre-season and they did not look good. Credit to Novak.
fun game to watch. Seitz has shaky moments seemingly every time I see him play, as shaky as Reis was solid
was that a penalty by Shalrie on Le Toux in stoppage time?
Any Rapids fans out there who can explain what I’m seeing? What is with the attendance? Looks like about 500 people. Was there a thunderstorm early on to scare people away? It’s a ghost town . . .
Yeah, he played the entire second half. He looked quited good. To be honest, he looked better than Beye, who played in the second half. Lichaj is comfortable on the ball–pretty good distribution–and is solid defensively. He’ll eventually be our (i.e., Villa’s) starting right back, I think, but probably not this season. Other fans on a Villa site I visit agreed that he looked pretty good tonight.
i agree with you…though it wasn’t clear in my comment, i am not in the camp of CD being able to be back in his starting role so soon. i personally think that we may not see any impact from him until the second half of the season (if there are no setbacks)….but we all are reading comments on here that have ppl wanting CD to be called for brazil and that’s why i said that we should be worried, perhaps i didn’t use the beat phrase to make that clear….
Rapids dumped the stadium in the sketchiest suburb where no one lives. And it’s super hot out today and they scheduled the game in the middle of the day. Why would you schedule a game in the middle of the summer before 6:00?
everything tim just said plus i believe everyone that was attending moved to the non camera side of the stadium where the shade makes the game almost reasonable to sit thru.
Hey Houston, are you ready to lose to RB New York from an Henry assisted goal to Angel and a Lindpere long-range shot? 2-1 NY
Le Toux is becoming a philly legend
Love that Kandji is lining up in the midfield. should be an exciting, attacking look from NYRB tonight.
Yeah baby!!!
Railhawks-Whitecaps game in Raleigh is entertaining, if not highest quality…
Odd PK for VAN in 1st minute; so one sure what the call was, and Whitecaps lookd surprised to get PK.
‘Hawks clanged a PK off x-bar later but scored 2 by halftime to tie. Both CAR goals were great team goals with good off-tthe-ball mvmt.
Henry assist
are you an insider? 1 out of 2 so far
Ahh, Shep Messing gives me such a warm feeling in my arms…
wait, that’s the blood flowing from my wrists.
Thanks, Tim and RLW
Henry to Angel. Predict we hear that fairly often the rest of the year.
YESSSS! Henry to Angel. Love it!
Always puzzles me why people don’t like Shep. Other than the thick Bronx accent, I find him a pretty good commentator.
Union didn’t dominate that game, in fact both teams had 10 shots and 6 shots on goal and possession was about 50/50.
I can’t blame Chris Seitz for that goal, if you saw the side view the ball took a very odd bounce, it must have hit a bump or something.
Nevertheless Marko Perovic who has scored 4 goals and 1 assist in the last 5 games is playing like a star.
I would like to hear insight from him, and I just hear a play by play of what I see on the replay.
That and his staccato, yet monotone, vocal patterns stir epileptic seizures in me.
I’m much better now, thanks.
Um, I thought Henry was a goal-scoring striker! What happened?!
Henry getting the France finishing out of him. AGHHHH.
Nice Henry!!!! First good chance by yourelf and you completely miss it!
Henry has missed a breakaway and an absolute sitter. This makes me happy.
Straight Red??? Two penalties…Henry has to get used to the MLS referees
Wow. This ref is struggling. First he missed what maybe should have been a whistle if not a card against Houston in the buildup to their penalty goal…and then this straight red for a shoulder challenge?
I am Dynamo fan thru and thru, but Lovell made contact with Mendes’ leg. Despite that I think it was a yellow, and not a red. That was brash.
That long-range Lindpere shot is coming
Very fun game. Don’t fault Houston for not stopping play before the first penalty although I can call them scumbags for it. Thought the ref should have stopped it. Odd red card. That penalty miss made me happy.
Oh and…HENRY HENRY HENRY
Either the Houston defense is giving too much respect for Henry or he’s just that good dribbling past people and runnning half the field unchallenged.
Henry is pretty much telling the ref what a moron he is. Geez, MLS needs better officials.
Also, Dane Richards is not the brightest soccer player out there huh?
Henry is a cheetah, good lord.
As a Philly fan but someone who’s player goal, I have to say that yeah, I’m losing my patience with Seitz. He’s got talent and a bright future to be sure, but there are only so many games where you cost your team 2 or 3 points due to soft goals before it gets in your head and it forces your coach to look for other options. Manuel Almunia aside, when top flight keepers make those mistakes they get benched or traded pretty quickly.
I say one more unsteady performance and both he and Arrieta should keep a bag packed by the front door.
Becoming? Son, he already is.
…and he’s OLD. imagine what he was like when he was in his “prime”.
zoikes, scoob
The official is handing NY yellow cards like candy.
Unfortunate that Henry’s first game is marred by terrible officiating favoring Houston.
Also…. Henry was just attacked at center circle by fans. Fire your security Houston.
Well unless he has a really short torso, her head is not in that awkward position.
of a position*
Wow NYRB is gonna being a problem for the rest of the year….. there were so many flashes….
ALL of the TEAMS in MLS better start thanking NYRB because MLS is def gonna get an improved TV contract
Sorry for typos… was on a cell phone in a sudden rain shower.
not much you can do about a pitch invasion, unless you want to put a huge fence around the field, a la argentina
I like what NY did throughout the game but I thought they lacked urgency on attack in the last 20 minutes or so. It looked like they were protecting their 2-1 lead and didn’t go for the extra goal for security, although, they had the chance to do so. It came back to hurt them with the equalizer that made it look like a loss.
I am watching the W-league final and just saw one of the best goals of the day. Buffalo scored an equalizer that looks like the 4th Brazil goal against Italy in the 1970 WC. Way to go Buffalo.
This Buffalo team is excellent. Another great goal: 2-1
So Manchester United & Inter Milan remain dominant & provided attractive football, & Man City & AC Milan are still difficult to watch. More of the same.
Ugh. That makes me ill. I still can’t forgive our FO for letting him go.
Happy for Seba… but still weird to watch him doing so well for another team.
