Choosing the best players in MLS is never an easy task, but choosing the 2009 MLS Best XI is extremely tough when you consider the plethora of candidates at the forward position.

Jeff Cunningham, Conor Casey, Fredy Montero, Guillermo Barros Schelotto and Omar Cummings are all worthy candidates at a loaded position, a position made only slightly easier to pick now that Landon Donovan is on the ballot as a midfielder.

Who would make your MLS Best XI? Now is your chance to vote. Here is how you can list your selections: list a goalkeeper, three defenders, five midfielders and two forwards and write the names consecutively rather than including hard returns after each name.

List your Best XI selections in the comments section below. I will put together a reader's choice MLS Best XI based on the entries submitted (no ballot stuffing allowed).

I’ll give a try, though I think that the 3-5-2 format (as in the all-star game) screws over outside backs, so I’ll include 2 outside backs as well.

This team would win A LOT of games, BTW, assuming Cunningham stayed hot. Think of the passing in that midfield!

PS: I’m sure ho hard returns wins me some kind of SBI browie badge for following the rules.

  41. blag says:

well it is hard to pick a less biased best 11 when you mainly follow only one team, but i will give it a shot.

Pat Onstad, Marshall, Cameron, Conde, Brad Davis, Holden, Joseph, Schelotto, Donovan, Cunningham, Conor Casey.

As a Dynamo fan it really hurts to put a fc dallas player up there but he deserves it. The thing that puzzles me is that the all star game and this both use 3-5-2 formations when almost every team rolls out the 4-4-2 in some way. Though teams are able to play in other formations, most consider their team at their strongest when they have their best players in the 4-4-2. Why is that?

  42. giggsylou says:

ricketts, c marshall, hurtado, cameron, donovan, joseph, holden, ljunberg, cummings, montero

  43. Roger says:

Cameron needs to start getting some calls from the USMNT… if you dont get to see much of him.. he is the most versatile player in the Dynamo team… He is the type of player the national team is lacking; skillful player that can attack from the back (IF I had to compare his type of play it would be similar to Lucio… by no means am I saying he is as good as Lucio)

  44. Elliott Spruell says:

    Ricketts

    Landon
    Cunningham Cummings

  45. Scott says:

  46. rickithebear says:

Anyone who does not list the Dero: the second highest goal total and Second highest assist total for midfeilders knows shite about the geame!

Donovan a Midfeilder? In that case I would like to congradulate Conor Casey for being the highest scoring Defender in MLS history.
