Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

It is a somewhat light day of soccer on the international calendar, as the Confederations Cup resumes and African World Cup qualifying takes center stage.

There will be a running commentary post for today's MLS action beginning at 4pm, so look out for that, but if you are following the international front (or South American soccer), feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action.

Spain v South Africa on ESPNHD Iraq V New Zealand on ESPN2HD for those wondering

  2. LIVERPOOLno1 says:

South Africa makes me smile. Damn good playing although their striker sucks. But at least they’re pushing Spain.

  3. beckster says:

Spain looking a little sluggish. South Africa does make you smile!

  4. Scott in Houston says:

Enjoying the Spain vs. South Africa game; it illustrates that a team with a lot of energy (South Africa) can hold their own against a team that does have a lot of skill but doesn’t have a lot at stake.

Hey LiverpoolNo1, you failed to mention that four Reds are playing for Spain at the moment (Pepe, Arbeloa, Reina and Torres). Reina and Torres are the bright spots out there, and, in my opinion, Sergio Busquets, David Villa and Cesc Fabregas aren’t looking sharp at all.

  5. Scott in Houston says:

*sorry, I meant Riera not Reina.

  6. beckster says:

Villa misses a penalty but scores seconds later!

  7. Paul says:

The best news of the day is the US team isn’t playing. No technical skills and tactical awareness – its getting embarrassing. These can’t be the best players we’ve got.

  8. Paul says:

Agree with beckster. Spain is looking a little sluggish, and they do have something on the line today. They are looking to set a new record for consecutive wins and tie the record for unbeaten streak.

  9. doug says:

Did JP just call the South Africa coach Juelz Sanatana? Dipset all day j/k

  10. HokieFutbol says:

Did anyone laugh as hard as I did when Villa put that in the net after gets smothered on the penalty? SA is saying FML

  11. HokieFutbol says:

Even though they are probably going through

  12. dave says:

Moss has been impressive for the kiwis

  13. RSF says:

Moss is unreal. And that stop off the line just now…wow

  14. dave says:

new zeland get a draw and south africa are through to the semis

  15. Win says:

Nothing, was more dissapointing than watching New Zealand celebrating a draw. I hope we don’t do that at the end of the Egypt game

  16. understood says:

its their first point in a fifa tournament…they are just growing as a soccer nation…let em celebrate

  17. Supsam says:

at least New Zealand got a point, cant say for sure if we are getting any
