Barcelona’s (latest) Six-Goal Masterpiece

Are you having a case of the Mondays? Did the great weekend of soccer action leave you craving just a bit more?

If so, we have just the thing for you. Here are full highlights of Barcelona's 6-0 drubbing of Malaga on Sunday. Barca had hit a rough patch in recent weeks, but broke out of it with another one of those unreal goal-fests that leave you remembering why you love the game so much when it is played at its highest level.

How good was Barcelona's display? Try six goals in 57 minutes, with five different players scoring against a team that had been enjoying a very good season in La Liga.

Here are the highlights. Enjoy:

    Only six goals!!!! LOL

  2. g-loff says:

All I can say is wow. It easily could have been 12-0 if the Malaga keeper hadn’t made some spectacular saves!

  3. Homey Boehme says:

the vision in the passing…the runs…wow…those were some pretty goals.

  4. MVK says:

Messi’s was absolute career highlight material, a true artist

  5. RK says:

And Messi missed two esy ones!

My favorite is Alves at 6:30 for #5.

  6. Pico says:

Simply amazing. There are no words to truly describe such performance. My fave was Alves’ goal. One of the Spanish newspapers said that NASA could have not designed a better pass than Iniesta’s lob.

    Ives, two questions:

    1. Is there a more valuable player in the Barcelona squad than Xavi? How many assists does that man have? Iniesta has been down as well as Yaya Toure, but the team has kept on wining with Xavi pulling the strings.

    2. I don’t know if you caught some highlights from the Villarreal game. When they are on, the style they play (Spaniards call it ‘tiki-taka’) completely overwhelms opponents. Do you think that style could work in MLS? That is, if a team can master it.

    Cheers

    Pico!
Couldn’t agree more with your Xavi comment… As I viewed the highlights I kept fantasizing that I had Xavi on my indoor soccer team, feeding me perfect timed, perfectly weighted through-balls. I think I have also finally forgiven him for scoring the winner against the U.S. in Spain’s 1-0 victory this past summer.

  8. Eric Sornoso says:

I can’t wait to see Liverpool vs Barcelona in the next round of Champions League.

    Both teams are on fire.

  9. Dan Roudebush says:

The runs off the ball!! Man the passer, whoever it happened to be, so many choices.

The weight on the passes is what seems to distinguish Barca from the other top clubs.

MU hammers it in there so hard, only someone like Ronaldo has a chance to control the ball. Barca, the ball still gets switched fast, but the weight on the ball is controllable.

Of course with Messi it doesn’t make any difference.

I made the pilgrimage a few years back . Unfortunately did not see a game . Wonder if you can even get tickets now.

  10. Adam M. says:

Barca is surely the greatest show in the sports world right now. If Brazil plays the Beautiful Game, this must be the Supermodel Edition. The sheer amount of offensive talent on that side is stunning. Messi, Eto’o, Alves, Henry, Xavi, Iniesta…its almost unfair frankly. To anyone who claims that soccer is boring, this highlight package should be Exhibit A for the defense.

  11. Pico says:

I know what you mean Dan. In the last goal, Henry’s touch pass to Eto’o is amazing! He takes a bouncing ball and rolls it to #9, so he can rifle left footed with no problem.

    Cheers

  12. Lou says:

Even without iniesta playing at his best he still plays so fluidly, he is quick, has great vision, and still young. I wish he would move out of barcelona to real madrid or maybe juve because i really can’t stand barcelona and i don’t think he is getting the credit and attention he deserves when he plays there. With that said i’m still not going to deny the fact that barcelona is easily playing the best soccer in the world rite now.

  13. SG says:

They’ll be out next round in CL

  14. Greg says:

It was really 6 goals in 40 minutes once they got the first one. It easily could have been 10.

I’m a Man U fan and I’m completely terrified of Barca when they’re at their best. They are the best team in the world by leaps and bounds when they’re able to play to their potential. There’s absolutely nothing a defender can do when they string together touches like that.

  15. Dale Murphy says:

Anybody know why Gol TV didn’t show the Barca game?

  16. KungFuSoccer says:

So the Galaxy are going to play these guys? Are they going to play with one foot tied behind their back?

  17. CrispyST3 says:

Greg, a football game is from 0′ the first kick, to 90′final whistle, and it took Barca from 0′ to 57′ to score 6 goals, so, you’re wrong, sorry, but i like how the keeper looked back almost as soon as Eto’o kicked it in his first goal, almost like he knew it was going in already

  18. Ted Tran says:

“Are you having a case of the Mondays?”

Ha first thing that poped in my head was Office Space.

Lawrance: No. No, man. (crap), no, man. I believe you’d get your ass kicked sayin’ something like that, man.

    Watch it Ives.

  19. Jonathan says:

how do people sleep on Eto’o and Henry?? Obviously everyone always sings the praises of xavi and messi, point blake Eto’o is probably the most underappreciated striker in the world, and Henry, is still in his prime. I for one never believed he had fallen off, he has proven that he is still Titi!! LE ROI Henry these past few weeks!!

  20. DC Josh says:

    two words: World. Class.

US will never have players of that ability. Unless we use stem cell research to build the perfect soccer genes.

  21. madmax says:

Every MLS/USA coach should be forced to watch this video. The ball is played on the ground, receiver keeps ball at feet, great off the ball movement, great unselfish passing. Even the better EPL teams are getting it, the ball is played on the ground.

  22. Juan de Fuca says:

What’s hilarious is that on top, the goalie makes at least 3-4 top notch saves, and they miss a couple more close chances as well..
