Ives, what is with the rumor all over Britain this morning that Fulham is trying to get McBride back on loan?

  2. Krista says:

I AM SO PISSED!!! Why leave Keane off AGAIN?? I cannot believe this crap. Okay got to breathe….

  3. AltiCooper says:

Any chance Altidore makes his debut for Xerez today?

  4. JB says:

FSC ends coverage of Inter-Torino at 1-1 in minute 88 to switch to Liverpool-Chelsea. I could have waited for the English game for a few more minutes, especially since nothing has happened in the first 5 minutes.

  5. Bootsy says:

Fox Soccer Channel needs to rename themselves to Fox English Premier League Channel. Cutting away from an end-to-end, dramatic finish just as stoppage time begins in order to show pre-game for another match? What a fscking joke of a sports channel.

  6. ManicMessiah says:

    Liverpool

    ———-

25 Pepe Reina, 37 Martin Skrtel, 23 Jamie Carragher, 12 Fabio Aurelio, 17 Álvaro Arbeloa, 14 Xabi Alonso, 20 Javier Mascherano, 11 Alberto Riera, 18 Dirk Kuyt, 8 Steven Gerrard, 9 Fernando Torres

    Chelsea

    ———-

Petr Cech 1, John Terry 26, Alex 33, Ashley Cole 3, José Bosingwa 17, John Mikel Obi 12, Frank Lampard 8, Michael Ballack 13, Florent Malouda 15, Nicolas Anelka 39, Salomon Kalou 21

  7. Chris says:

Cutting away from Inter – Torino in the 88th min to go to Chelsea – Liverpool? Weak. You don’t cut away from the end of a match that’s already going on (though I’m sure I’m in the minority hear because probably most people reading the Blog only care about EPL matches).

  8. ManicMessiah says:

14th minute- Alonso takes a shot from long distance that Cech parries out for a corner. No one closed down Alonso.

  9. Krista says:

If Liverpool don’t win today I do believe I will implode all over myself. Jes.

Dang. Alonso with a nice kick. Corner amounts to nothing.

  10. ManicMessiah says:

15th minute- Dirk Kuyt pressures Terry on a clearance from the back, deflects it, but puts a terrible cross in from the right. It tells you everything you need to know about Kuyt in one bit of play.

  11. Carl says:

Love the snow sprinkles. Fitting for super sunday.. Go Liverpool

  12. ManicMessiah says:

19th minute- Another long range shot, this time by Mascherano. Cech stops it, but spills a rebound well away from him. Fortunately for Chelsea, there was not a single Liverpool player within 10 yards of it.

  13. Krista says:

Ugh! Why didn’t any pool player follow that ball in! Stupid plays like that are why we have so many draws.

  14. ManicMessiah says:

20th minute- Mascherano gets the 1st yellow of the match for persistant infringement.

  15. ManicMessiah says:

28th minute- Kuyt was free on the wing with Gerrard and Torres running in, but Kuyt makes a mess of the cross.

  16. ManicMessiah says:

31st minute- Cech found himself with the ball at his feet and under a little pressure, but took a terrible first touch that left him scrambling to sweep the ball away before a Liverpool player ended up with an open net.

  17. ManicMessiah says:

33rd minute- Chelsea earn their first corner of the match, which was headed wide by Terry. It was in the vague direction of goal, so that was an improvement from the majority of the game so far.

  18. njmag says:

anyone know where i can find the north east derby online

  19. Krista says:

Riera is killin us! Awful first touches and bad crossing.

  20. ManicMessiah says:

39th minute- Carragher misjudges the bounce of a ball, Anelka nearly misses taking it down, and moments later he blasts a shot into a Liverpool defender. Appeals for handball are made, but there wasn’t one.

  21. ManicMessiah says:

42nd minute- Cech spills a rebound into the center of the penalty area, and Ashley Cole nearly puts it into his own net, but the ball going only just wide left and out for a corner. Cech has spilled a couple of rebounds in this match.

  22. Krista says:

See if you fooolllllooooow the ball you can tap it in. Seriously gonna implode.

  23. ManicMessiah says:

45+1 minute- Riera tries to backheel a ball in the penalty area after being fed in a brilliant ball by Gerrard, and makes a complete mess of it.

    Half time.

Liverpool controlled the play for the half, but it was really by default. I thought before the match it was a certain 1-1 draw, but it looks like that was wishful thinking.

  24. sean monaghan says:

    celtic played crap today

  25. g-loff says:

Much more entertaining Liverpool-Chelsea match than in the recent past. Starting to worry about the Reds becoming to much like Arsenal…lots of possession with nothing to show for it.

  26. g-loff says:

Much more entertaining Liverpool-Chelsea match than in the recent past. Starting to worry about the Reds becoming to much like Arsenal…lots of possession with nothing to show for it.

  27. ManicMessiah says:

46th minute- Alonso earns a yellow card, which is the 3rd of the match (including Cole getting one in the 22nd that I forgot to mention).

  28. ManicMessiah says:

51st minute- Another horrible cross from Kuyt on the right (which he had loads of room to take), but it was chested out for a corner by Bosingwa.

  29. ManicMessiah says:

52nd minute- Mikel earns a yellow for taking down Arbeloa after losing the ball.

53rd minute- Torres takes a shot in the penalty area, but it was blocked by Alex. Torres got the ball from a really good ball flicked on by the head of Gerrard.

  30. ManicMessiah says:

59th minute- Chelsea cannot put anything together offensively right now. They are having trouble putting together four consecutive passes, much less getting shots on goal.

  31. ManicMessiah says:

60th minute- Lampart is Sent Off with a Red Card!!!

  32. Jonathan says:

FSC is a disgrace. Cutting off a compelling match to show one that has not even begun is an insult. I’m never buying anything that is advertised on that channel. I’ll even write letters to FSC advertisers.

  33. iasthai22 says:

    Terrible call from the ref.

  34. ManicMessiah says:

64th minute- Mikel is called for a handball, a free kick is given in a good position for a free kick, just left of center, but the kick is blasted into the wall.

  35. ManicMessiah says:

As for the penalty, Lampard slid into a challenge on Alonso, and his foot was a bit high in order to win the ball. The fact that Alonso was jumping in the air made the challenge look much worse than it was, in my opinion.

I thought the ref could have easily given a yellow.

  36. Krista says:

Don’t think I agree with that red card.

  37. ManicMessiah says:

68th minute- Alex blocks a shot from Alonso, which hits the cross bar and is out for a corner!!

69th minute- Deco and Drogba are coming out for Anelka and Malouda.

  38. ManicMessiah says:

70th minute- Gerrard earns a yellow for diving.

  39. ManicMessiah says:

72nd minute- Chelsea turn a nothing ball hoofed into a corner as two defenders collide. The corner was cleared out twice for corners, until a foul was called on Torres.

  40. ManicMessiah says:

73rd minute- Benayoun coming on for Riera.

  41. g-loff says:

Would much rather have seen Benayoun for Kuyt

  42. ManicMessiah says:

79th minute- Torres pops the ball into the area and bicycles the ball at Cech who collects the ball well with Kuyt lurking in the vicinity.

  43. Jay-Z says:

Lampard deserved a red and more for the challenge. It’s plays like that which resulted in Eduardo’s broken leg last year. I’m glad to see the refs are cracking down on this sort of thing. Lampard will be lucky if he gets away without a ban.

  44. ManicMessiah says:

80th minute- Benayoun runs onto a pass and smashes a shot that Cech puts out for a corner!! Good shot but a better effort from the keeper.

  45. ManicMessiah says:

81st minute- Another poor touch from Kuyt ruins an attacking sequence for Liverpool.

  46. ManicMessiah says:

83rd minute- Mascherano comes off for Babel. Apparently Benitez feels safe in making a positive substitution in the 83rd minute while up a man, which I suppose is something.

  47. ManicMessiah says:

85th minute- Chelsea’s last substitution was Miroslav Stoch coming on for Kalou, a couple of minutes before.

  48. g-loff says:

This is where Liverpool could really use Keane…except he was completely left out of the squad

  49. ManicMessiah says:

    89th minute- Goal Liverpool!!!!

  50. ManicMessiah says:

Perfect ball from Aurielo to Torres, who just manages to get in front of Alex to head the ball past Cech.

  51. ManicMessiah says:

    94th minute- Goal Liverpool!!!

Chelsea were scrambling to get back after trying to equalize, and the ball ended up falling right to Torres, who slotted home easily to put Chelsea up 2.

  52. Krista says:

see this is what happens when you follow through!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wooo hoo!!!!

  53. g-loff says:

    Go you Reds!!!!

  54. doug says:

    Torres is a GOD!!!!

  55. AltiCooper says:

What a great finish to that game

  56. doug says:

    3 things about the game

    1. Gerrard shouldve been sent off in the first half for the ball kicking incident on Bosingwa

    2. Lampard’s red card was at best ridiculous, at worst the FA should investigate Mike Riley to see if he placed a halftime bet on Liverpool

    3. Bosingwa shoudlve been red carded and banned for 3 games. Studs in the back of a player? Thats bush league stuff

Nevertheless, my Reds get all the points and stay close to Man U who have 4 games in the space of 12 days coming up this week

  57. Krista says:

Awesome match. Scrappy at times yes, but the ending was very good. Glad to see Torres healthy and gettin goals. :)

  58. sean monaghan says:

how did the ref miss that last incident with bosingwa?!?!?!?!?

    ban him atleast 5 games

  59. Scott A says:

doug, I completely agree with you. Riley was horrendous and there were other examples. That yellow on Bosingwa was a bad call, he should have called some fouls in the first half when things were getting ridiculous…it wasn’t a matter of letting the game flow because there was no flow, probably others in addition to the big ones you mentioned. Either way…Torres and Gerrard are so good

  60. Chase says:

    FERNANDO TORRES IS LIVERPOOL’S #9!!!!!

Title chase is back on Manure…

  61. doug says:

Just watched the game again to see how great Alex was. Cant really fault him for the Torres goal as it was Terry who let Torres roam free to come on the blind side of Alex. The guy is a rock. If everyone played with as much focus and grit as him, Chelsea mightve snuck a point today. Anybody willing to place money on the fact that next year Carvalho and Alex will be the starting CB tandem. I would. Ive had it with JT. He seems to have another partime job as the unofficial referee review board as every time a teammate is booked he feels compelled to get a second booking for dissent. Also, it seems Peter Cech has not been the same since dropping that cross during the Euros. He was lucky that no LFC player followed the Mascherano shot in the first half which he spilled 8 yards in front of him. That blunder by Ashley Cole was dumb. I guess thats what happens when you have no competition for your spot any more, now that Bridge is gone. Say what you want about him, but a player always plays better knowing his spot is NOT guaranteed. Makes you more focused.

My personal MOTM–Benayoun. The guy is a gamer. Completely changed the flow of the game coming on. Torres got the goals, but Benayoun changed the match.

My personal Worst MOTM–Bosingwa. Never mind the studs to the back incident. Chelsea down 1-0 pressing forward with numbers for a equalizer. The guy tries a “hero shot” from 35 yards, on his off foot. WHAAT? Maybe against West Brom fool, but not Pepe

Announcer comment of the game–“There’s Riera, once again showing a complete lack of a right foot”

  62. Chase says:

Any news on whether Altidore got any time in Xerez’s win today?

  63. Ives says:

Folks, David Beckham just set up AC Milan’s first goal with a perfect ball in to Pato. As for Jozy Altidore, he did not play today for Xerez, which won 2-0.

  64. Ives says:

48th minute- Beckham gets his second assist by hitting a perfect free kick to the back-post, where Ambrosini races on to head it home. 2-0 to Milan, both goals set up by Beckham passes.

  65. David (Not Beckham) says:

Beckham got the 2nd assist too.

  66. RS says:

Beckham with his 2nd assist..this time off of a free kick. Ambrosini with a header for the finish.

  67. Mario in SJ says:

    Beck’s price is zooming.

Second goal for Milan by Ambrosini provided by another pinpoint deliver from Becks.

  68. Josh says:

    Nice game for Torres!

What the hell has possessed Messi!?

He scored a brace coming off the bench within minutes of coming in. He is undoubtedly going to be the world player of the year this year. Ronaldo deserved it last year. But no one else is on the level of Messi.

I’ve never been a Messi lover, always respected him, but now I am on his ship, he is going to lead Argentina next year, hope the US isn’t drawn in their group.

  69. Hector says:

Everybody around here is focused on the EPL and missing the all around absurdness that is Messi lately. 25 Goals and 11 assist at the halfway mark. That’s just absurd. Also, he’s the one getting the clutch goals. Guy came off the bench touched the ball twice and tied the game and then got the winner.

According to Sport since he debuted with the first team in 2004, Barca has NEVER lost a game in which he has scored. That’s just obscene. Talk about being a Talisman.

  70. Carl says:

Torres subbed in for Pachuca in 53rd…
