The San Jose Earthquakes are at home tonight, taking on Real Salt Lake in an important Western Conference clash with major playoff implications.

The Earthquakes, currently riding a nine-game unbeaten streak, will look to keep RSL’s road woes going with a win tonight. Real Salt Lake has just one win on the road all season, but will need a point or three tonight to avoide being passed in the standings by the red-hot Quakes.

GOAL by Hucks! 1-1 …. cant find a stream!

  3. Will says:

The game’s on HDNet, 60 mins in as I type this.

Morales just scored on a beautiful free kick to put RSL up 3-2.

The Quakes are rocking some putrid uniforms. Bad color combination: black shirts with blue shorts. Gah. RSL looks classy in their white shirts and shorts.

Will Johnson started and is playing somewhat well. I’m mainly watching for him, really.

  4. Jacob says:

I just watched the mlsnet video on RSL’s new stadium, and it really looks great.

  5. Will says:

Why on Earth is Mathis wearing number 84? Is there a story behind it?

One more uniform note: adidas needs to do something about the name and number font next year. It’s pretty bad right now.

  6. Boris says:

I agree about the font on the uniforms. When I went to the opening game against the fire I thought RSL had three number 11′s. It turns out it was really three numbers, 17, 11, and 77. They just all look the same.

  7. hincha tim says:

Mathis’ kid was born on 8/4, thus the uniform number. RSL picks up a must-win.

  8. Will says:

hincha tim: Nice. Thanks for that. That’s a pretty cool gesture on his part, even though it’s a silly number, hehe.

  9. ravenrooney says:

We RSL fans generally say that he chose 84 because it’s the year he graduated from high school…making him 42 years old. Sounds about right.

  10. Tony in Quakeland says:

That was the worst officiated game I have ever had the misfortune of witnessing. It should be preserved and studied in it;s astonishing awfulness. Even by MLS standards, a horrible performance.

  11. f4denz says:

Number 84 is for his son’s birth.

I am not sure how the officating was horrible? RSL plays physical, and got 3 yellow cards, sounds like sour grapes. If any team has a right to complain about bad calls it is RSL.
